You can’t win by being against…

You're a Winner

What do you stand for?

Many people complain about the drug industry. Others are actively against vaccination, loudly fight cancer, get worked up over this or that and are quick to fight some injustice.

You can’t win by being against!

By attempting to overcome something (smoking, alcohol, sugar, procrastination etc), declare war on something else (cancer, poverty, hunger, obesity, sedentary lifestyles, lids off toothpaste tubes or whatever else), you actually create what you don’t want! Your attempts will produce an equal and opposite reaction.

Instead, provide a more attractive solution. Stand for personal responsibility, advance the truth, encourage understanding, trumpet the advantages of natural, support a willingness to try, incentivise (you like that?) follow through, praise incremental improvements, reward behaviors you desire … rather than punish those you’d like to eliminate.

Leadership is about creating a more promising future, not condemning what is.

If you focus on the problem, you’ll never see the solution

Magician

If you focus on the problem, you’ll never see the solution.

Professional magicians are masters at using simple diversion techniques to misdirect their audience’s attention. Challenges in your life can be just as distracting. They can misdirect your attention to the most obvious symptoms of an issue, causing you to overlook the underlying cause of the challenge.

For example, some patients think their headache is the problem. Its just the symptom of the problem!

The illusion that the problem is the problem is what keeps you stuck.

Do you have a high maintenance life?

High Maintenance

     High Maintenance

Do you have a high maintenance life? Does your life require a great deal of emotional investment to maintain?

It may be a sign you make relationships (customer/client/patient/personal) about meeting your needs rather than theirs. If you assume a parental role you impose your will on others. Even if you justify your caring is in their best interests, ‘mother henning’ is unsustainable.

They become the problem. You take their choices personally. Their rejection produces doubt, anger, fatigue and eventually burnout. When you live through others you’re unable to be the anchor people secretly crave, impeding the important component of hope.

By mother henning about what you have little or no control over (their choices, pace of personal growth and healing, desire to follow through, the priority they place on health, etc.) your impact is blunted and your capacity reduced.

Be in control without being controlling. Focus on your own goals and be a role model for others. Live the life of your dreams.

The opposite of procrastination is the inability to say, “No.”

Procrastination

Putting off things you don’t consider urgent (I.e. procrastinating) and the hyperactivity displayed by those unable to turn down virtually any request made of them, are the two sides of the same coin.

Both pathologies are symptoms of lacking purpose beyond surviving, being liked or getting by.

Knowing your purpose gives you the courage to say, “No.”

Knowing your purpose helps you say, “Thanks however I’ve got other commitments.”

If you have trouble saying, “No” then practice with “I don’t think so”. It gives you a buffer zone to get clear on what you do and don’t want.

Knowing your purpose helps you:

▪         avoid getting sucked into the emergencies of others

▪         bypass things that take you on a tangent

▪         discern what is important and what isn’t

Exercise, endorphins and natural high

ExerciseExercise releases endorphins from your pituitary and hypothalamus. They’re released during excitement,  pain, eating spicy food, sex and orgasm. They block pain and make you feel exhilarated. Endorphins give you the “runner’s high” with strenuous exercise.
